What is a loop carpet?

A loop carpet is sometimes referred to as a Berber carpet, taken from the traditional Moroccan Berber rugs which were known for their distinctive hand-knotted finish. Simply put, a loop pile carpet is made of continuous loops of yarn. The yarn is sewn and tufted into the backing without being cut, giving a knot-like appearance. This modern finish gives a range of textures ranging from a soft, smooth feel under your foot to something much firmer, depending on how tightly tufted your carpet is.

A loop pile can be looped at the same size and height but can also be looped with varying heights and sizes (structured loop), creating different patterns in the carpet. The chunky appearance of a loop pile gives a natural, yet contemporary look to your floor. It is a great way of adding a subtle hint of pattern in your home which adds another layer of interest to your interior. A loop carpet is available in a variety of neutral tones, from cream through to beige, grey and greige, making it a great colour option for all rooms in your home.

Loop carpets are available in either natural or synthetic fibres and some styles are woven from a mixture of the two. Wool fibres are more robust and man-made fibres can sometimes be easier to clean. Overall, loop carpets are the perfect blend of style, durability and performance. The tightly woven, densely packed fibres mean a loop carpet is more hard-wearing than a cut pile carpet and requires less maintenance. The firm pile bounces back easily so won’t leave footprints when walked over which makes it perfect for busy areas of the home.

With so many positive points to the loop carpet, we think it is a great choice for the modern family home.
